Commissions

I am pleased to offer commissions for portraits from February 2025. Before deciding if you want a portrait created by me, have a look at my work and see which artworks you find most appealing. I do work from source photos that you would need to supply (a good range of suitable quality images may be required) and can incorporate a colour theme or influence. If you are happy with this, I would be honoured to create a portrait for you.

To enquire about a portrait, please use my contact form and provide information as guided by the form. I usually request a deposit of around 20% upfront and the rest is payable when the portrait is completed. Artwork is supplied either stretched over 3mm MDF on in an embroidery hoop. I do not supply frames as they are too difficult to post safely. Lead times vary depending on availability but I would always meet an agreed deadline.

Portraits are designed to be hung on an interior wall and never in direct or strong sunlight.

Prices vary depending on your requirements but usually follow this pricing structure:

Textile Portraits - Painting and Free-motion embroidery onto Silk

Painting onto silk with free-motion machine embroidery - I use Inktense paints to create painted layers onto silk organza and silk habotai. The silks look beautiful with the translucency and create a beautiful effect for skin. I can add layers of cottons and/or lace too to add depth to your portrait. Choose from more realistic palette or add some bright colours.

Textile Portraits - Reverse Applique and Free-motion Embroideryusing Cottons

Reverse Applique printed cottons with free-motion machine embroidery - with this technique I can use lots of coloured cottons to layer and cut away. The effect is very striking and I can add some drawn detail too to make your likeness shine. Suitable for medium or large sized pieces.

Portrait Drawings (Mixed-media)

Mixed-media Drawings - I use a variety of pens, inks, collage materials and pencils to create a creative portrait. These are usually approximately A4 in size.
