Hello everyone! If you are reading this, welcome to my website. I'm Holly - a textile artist from Yorkshire. You can read all about me on the website, and this blog will give you more up to date insights into what I have been up to. As well as making my artwork, I run a Community Interest Company Thread and Press CIC, delivering arts projects and workshops. This blog is brand new- I recently made the decision to move more of my thoughts, tutorials and content away from social media. This decision was made off the back of a very difficult week where I lost most of my social media accounts. My Facebook page and Instagram page were deleted. Not by me, but by Meta 'technologies' (so AI bots then really). And I am not certain why. I think it is over a duplicate account (I had another set up from years ago when I was locked out of my original account - I left it dormant but didn't close it). It was frustrating but at the same time, and you can't speak to a human about it, but once over the initial shock, it was weirdly refreshing. It was a good opportunity to have a re-think - what was I really gaining from social media? An audience, yes certainly. But in reality, it took a long time to compile, edit and post and it did take a lot of time away from making art. In the previous few weeks, my kids saw me sitting scrolling through work posting and editing reels, more than they saw me me making art. Now, it's the opposite. And as a working mum, I don't have a lot of time to spare. So any time gained is a pure blessing.
I would love to think I could manage without social media going forward. But actually, I think I will be opening a new account at some point. But I am enjoying the silence right now. And everything I post here is my own to post, edit or delete. And going forward I plan to use social media as a way to bring people to my site and my blog - if they are interested in seeing my work. If you are reading this, I hope you are keen to see some of my latest work too - I will be sharing more in the coming weeks.
I will be sharing some videos and tutorials too - giving some useful tips - for anyone else with a passion for free-motion embroidery. Maybe you are just interested to see or learn - I hope I can help with that!
Here is a little peak of some of the work I have been doing in the last week. I have been working on two portraits for an upcoming exhibition, Fragments of Imagination with York Textile Artists in October. One piece is finished now, although I am saving the full reveal until nearer the exhibition date - but here is a little peak of some of my processes....
