We Are Layers - Textile and Mixed-Media Portraits

This collection of portrait work is an exploration of the layers of our beauty and character.  Using a combination of mixed-media and textile techniques, this body of work celebrates captured expressions and snapshots of moments in everyday life.

 

Faces have always amazed me. The subtleties of the changes within a face can show so much of how we feel and how we connect to others.  By developing and  combining different art and textile methods, my artwork is created using multiple processes and layers. Each layer is like a layer of ourselves – the experiences, influences, places we’ve been- and everything that makes us. Some layers stand out and some run deeper than others. Some we can see and some we don’t even know are there. At times, they blend with others and create something new. I allow each portrait to evolve and change as they are created.

 

It is the small moments of everyday life that most inspire me – the unrecognised events and the celebration of everyday life.
